EGERTON’S superb winning run shows no sign of abating.

Struggling Billinge were dispatched on Saturday as the Yellows recorded their 11th Cheshire Football League Premier Division victory in succession.

Jonathan Higham netted twice in a 4-1 victory at Egerton Youth Club, with Ladi Oseni and Rob Spilsbury also on the scoresheet.

They sit fourth in the table, four points behind league leaders AFC Knowsley having played three games fewer.

They would have been hoping for a favour from cross-town neighbours Knutsford as they hosted the table-toppers on Saturday – and they very nearly got one.

Reds eventually went down 2-1, but Nathan Steele’s side could perhaps feel unfortunate not to take a point from the game at Manchester Road.

The hosts were on the front foot early but were up against a side in red-hot form, who made sure their mistakes did not go unpunished.

A defensive mistake allowed Peter Silcock to open the scoring after six minutes for the visitors, and the same player capitalised on a poor defensive clearance to double the lead 10 minutes later.

Knutsford pressed for a way back into the game and eventually, it came shortly after half time.

Jack Naylor cut inside from the right wing and fed Andrew Crompton, who shot left-footed into the far corner to halve the deficit.

By the later stages, Knowsley were hanging on and were indebted to goalkeeper Alex Gibbons for a superb save to deny a free kick and an excellent goalline clearance from Sean Coulton to maintain their lead.

However, they saw the game out to deny Knutsford what would have been a hard-fought point.

Knutsford are back in action on Saturday with a trip to Whaley Bridge Athletic while Egerton are not due for action again until they face Beechfield United in the Manchester FA Saturday Challenge Trophy quarter-finals.
