KNUTSFORD Cricket Club's second team took a giant stride towards promotion at the weekend.
They swatted aside fellow high-flyers Hawk Green away from home thanks to a season's best batting effort of 276-6.
Waleed Khan was the undoubted star with a stunning knock of 122 as he shared crucial partnerships of 86 with Mohammad Arslan (32) and 92 with Alamdaar Hussain (55) before Mohammad Hamza's quickfire unbeaten 32 added late momentum.
With a huge total behind them, the Knutsford bowlers set to work and managed to wrap up a 118-run victory as nine wickets fell for 50 runs.
Atal Jan was the star with 4-18 while Khan followed up his century with two wickets. Shake Shimul, Nadim Alam, Mohtashim Asif and Waqar Khan all claimed a wicket each.
Unfortunately, however, the first team could not follow in the same vein as they were beaten by league leaders Maritime.
After the visitors posted 197-8, Knutsford collapsed to 97-7 and a 100-run loss.
At the weekend, the firsts travel to Appleton while the seconds host Trafford MV.
