THE finishes to Alderley Edge Golf Club’s monthly Stablefords could not have been closer.

Card play-offs were needed to decide who topped both Division One and Division Two after players could not be separated.

There was a three-way tie for the lead in Division One and the card play-off fell in favour of Gavin Elly, who edged out Andrew Boyle and Mike Easton after all three had finished on 36 points.

Paul Short and Derek Shenton both finished on 38 points in Division Two, with the cpo declaring the former as the winner.

A card play-off was also needed in Alderley’s mixed 9-hole Stableford, which was won by Ben Craven on 18 points from Tom Ricketts and Andrew Slater while Sarah Dwyer (14) finished as the leading women.

Over at Styal Golf Club, the juniors got their summer competition underway with Kaiden Marsh winning through in round one.

He finished on 22 points, two clear of Ben Cross.

The seniors were also in White Tee medal action in another contest that required a card play-off.

Harish Shah was victorious ahead of Steve Walker after both finished on 67, with Tom Tosh a point adrift.

Styal’s Wednesday medal was much more clear cut as Paul Farmer claimed a dominant victory on 64 points, three clear of Kieran Gandy.

The club’s ladies played a singles Stableford and were led in by Frances Purdy on 42 points – one more than Celia O’Donohue – while the nine-hole winner was Eileen Elliott with 15.
