THERE was a glimpse of the past, present and future of Knutsford Rugby Club at the weekend.

For the first time ever, they were able to field the first team, second team and their under 14s side on the same day on what was a billed as a significant milestone for the club.

With Covid restrictions lifted, supporters were also allowed back to the club to see what was a feast of rugby on show.

The first team fell just short of marking the occasion with a victory, however, in what was their final game of a heavily disrupted 2020-21 campaign.

Despite starting brightly, errors crept into their game and Sandbach’s thirds were able to take advantage by securing a 36-28 win.

The seconds were part of a hastily-arranged “Festival of Rugby” – a round-robin tournament featuring Sandbach fourths, Christleton and Manchester.

Knutsford were a commendable second to Sandbach, with the other two teams behind.

Before the senior games, the under 14s showcased their skills to the crowd with an excellent display of running rugby.
