IT seems that when Knutsford Hockey Club men's team win, they win big!

Not only did they score five goals and concede none in the process against Wilmslow's thirds at the weekend, they knocked their opponents off top spot too in North West Hockey League Division Two South.

Knutsford's only previous win this season was 6-1 against Winnington Park, so Saturday's success equalled the season's widest margin of victory so far.

After having been beaten 3-0 by Birkenhead and 5-3 by Macclesfield's seconds – the current top two – in their other fixtures since the season's start at the beginning of the month, they now sit fourth on the ladder.

They will be looking for back-to-back wins for the first time this season when they visit bottom-of-the-table Deeside Ramblers' fourths on Saturday.

Knutsford made a strong start count against Wilmslow.

They won an early short corner and Max Lawton continued his fine form to fire the ball into the goal to the keeper's left.

Knutsford continued to control the game and some smart play down the right from Charlie Routs found Stuart Kenyon in space in the D to calmly place the ball in the bottom corner of the goal.

Wilmslow did come back into the game but again Knutsford won a short corner and Lawton fired the drag flick past the keeper on the stroke of half time.

The visitors came out with a point to prove in the second half and started brightly but some good defending saw off the Wilmslow advance and again, after some strong work down the left by Routs, Lawton found himself in space to tap home.

Knutsford finished off the strong performance with a late goal from Chris Drake on his return to the first team.

Man of the match was revealed to be Tom Howard.

The unbeaten Knutsford seconds, who had no game at the weekend, play host to their third team on Saturday.

The teams currently hold the top two spots in North West Hockey League Division 5 South East.
