A CLUB record was broken as Knutsford Cricket Club’s second team picked up an outstanding victory over neighbours Lindow.

In reply to Lindow’s 200-6, Asumon Ahmed and John Sheridan put on an incredible opening stand of 196 – the highest in the club’s history – to allow them to coast home.

Ahmed’s career-best knock of 119 featured 21 boundaries, with eight of them clearing the rope for maximums, while the evergreen Sheridan played the supporting role to perfection with an unbeaten 66.

The first team also picked up a resounding 138-run win over Appleton, allowing the club to bring the curtain down on the 2020 season in style.

Khawar Iqbal was Knutsford’s batting mainstay with a polished 94 while Hasnain Malik (40 not out) and Tariq Khan (19 not out) provided fireworks in the death overs to reach 191-7.

In response, the visitors capitulated to 53 all out as quick bowler Hamza Ahmed took four wickets at a cost of just four runs.

Zahid Khan (4-30) and Khan (2-11) also starred with the ball.
