TOFT Cricket Club have set out a plan for starting a women's cricket team.

A taster session, supported by Cheshire Women's coaches, will kick things off as the club aims to have a side in place for playing matches in 2021.

"We are hosting a taster session as part of our Festival of Cricket day on September 19," explained club captain Jimmy Lomas, who can be contacted to book in for the session via jimmy_lomas@hotmail.co.uk though interested players are also welcome to turn up on the day.

"This session will be a general introduction to cricket, you can learn batting, bowling and fielding and we will have some fun and games with it also.

"Following on from the taster session, we will look to book in some group training sessions and begin to assemble our women's cricket section.

"Over the winter, we will host some indoor training sessions with the intention of forming a small 'committee' of women who will help run the team in 2021.

"This is all very exciting and I hope people are looking forward to getting involved."

Also, anyone wishing to arrange a small group training session or one-to-one session before festival day should contact Jimmy on the email address outlined above.

The Festival of Cricket looks set to be a great day.

"We start off the day by having the final All Stars session of the year from noon to 1pm," said Jimmy, making reference to the children's development group.

"We then have our first women's cricket taster session from 1pm to 3pm.

"The afternoon is rounded off with the final game of the season, Taverners (over 40s) versus Dads & Lads."

The Bar and barbecue will be open all afternoon and everyone in the community is welcome to attend.
