Vauxhall Motors manager Mick McGraa has been busy making signings for the new 2020-21 campaign, despite the uncertainty over when the North West Counties League season will commence.

The Rivacre Park boss has already snapped up goalkeeper Ryan Crump, central defender and club captain Tom Mitchell and midfielders Danny Cross and Ben Holmes from last season’s squad.

Now he has also brought in new signing Simon Thelwell, a striker previously with Runcorn Town, who is a proven goal getter.

The club hopes that more of last season’s squad will also put pen to paper in the weeks ahead, as the Motormen prepare for yet another Division One South campaign, despite gaining promotion on the last Saturday prior to lockdown.

As a result of the restrictions enforced by the coronavirus pandemic, the FA decreed that the 2019-20 season at Steps 3 to 7 on non-league football were “null and void”.

As a result, Vauxhall were denied promotion to the Premier Division, even though they had already secured enough points to move up a tier.

Motors were 16 points clear of FC Oswestry Town when Covid-19 halted their season and going on to be crowned as league champions had been expected to be a mere formality.
