KNUTSFORD Hockey Club women’s team won 4-1 at Macclesfield with the help of a hat-trick from Sarah Fielding.

The first breakthrough for Knutsford in the mid-table battle came towards the end of the first half when player-of-the-match Faye Webber made an attacking run from defence, working her way around the Macclesfield players into the attacking circle.

A brilliant dummy from Hannah Quinn distracted the goalkeeper which allowed the pass from Webber to go straight into the bottom left-hand corner of the home side’s goal.

Macclesfield’s strong start to the second half was rewarded with a goal but the 1-1 scoreline did not hamper Knutsford’s ambitions and instead kick-started a unified second-half performance causing Macclesfield’s spirits to unravel.

Fielding scored a goal from a short corner rebound and then added her second, clinically finishing some great attacking play from Suzi Weir.

Macclesfield did penetrate Knutsford’s attacking circle on a few occasions but brilliant defending from Sarah Crabtree, Faye Webber, Amanda Rees and Liz Ball enabled Knutsford to turn their defence into attack.

Macclesfield became rattled, releasing frustrations on the umpires.

But the visitors remained focused throughout and sealed a convincing win when Fielding completed her second-half hat-trick.
