STYAL Golf Club members turned out in force to support one of their own at the Society of Manchester Captains’ annual dinner.

Members were keen to give their backing to fellow Styal golfer Mike Rhodes in his capacity as president of the Manchester and District Golf Association.

R&A captain Clive Edington and England Golf president Jenny Clink were among the dignitaries present at the dinner at Knutsford's The Mere Resort.

Back at Styal, Mel Hill continued her excellent form in the latest Ladies Winter League Stableford as she finished on top with 20 points.

Hill finished two points clear of Enid Laverty, with third-place Nancy Chorlton four points further back.

the seniors were in action in a Four Club Stableford that was led in by Peter Booth.

He finished on 37 to beat three players – Brian Appleby, Terry Hooper and Nick Gillings – by two points.

Kevin Lee took charge of Styal’s 9-hole Wednesday Stableford as he racked up 21 points.

John McBryer came home second on 20 with Tom Bloor one point further back as he claimed third place.

In the Styal Seniors Winter League, John Turtle required a cpo to pip Paul Jones to top spot after both golfers finished level on 37 points.

Jim Waugh and Ted Marsden were two points off their pace.

A singles Stableford at Mottram Hall saw Peter Smith take home top prize on 35 points.

There was a three-way tie for second spot as Glenn Austin, Dave McCallum and Andrew Hockenhull all ended on 33 points.
