ALDERLEY Edge golf professional Charles le Sueur and some of his club members enjoyed a great trip to the Algarve with a mix of coaching and playing.

“We were blessed with beautiful weather and played three decent courses," said le Sueur.

"We did two hours of coaching each morning and it was great to see everyone making improvements to their game – very impressive despite some being slightly fragile from the night before!

“Morgado is definitely a resort that I will bring the group to next year.

“Back at Alderley Edge myself and assistant pro Dan Featherstone have begun our winter term group lessons in two sessions per week.

“The main focus of this term’s lessons will be improving technical skills in the golf studio and where suitable we will use the golf simulator to help with understanding of course management and club selection – for more details contact the pro shop at the club."

Meanwhile, the second round of the Simister Cup at Alderley was close with Maicheal Davies leading in with 22 points from Andy Wells, 21, and Richard Stewart and John Newsham, both with 19.

Styal seniors were busy in two competitions with the latest Winter League stableford being won by Graham Swann with 39 points from Paul Lawday, 38, and Ted Marsden, Paul Carr, Alan Townsend and Bruce Cochrane, all 34.

The seniors then put on their dancing shoes for a waltzing stableford with the judges giving top marks to Harry Reid, G Hamilton and P Jones with 76 points, taking them home from C Baillie, P Lawday and J Parr, 75, and D Blackburn, G Swann and R Vaal 74.
