WITH a good crowd in the new stand, Wilmslow Hockey Club's men had a chance to go level on points with Bowdon seconds at the top of the North Division One table if they could beat them on Saturday.

But Bowdon had read a different script and went home victorious 5-0.

Simon Pickering made a sharp save in the Wilmslow goal to keep the game goalless 15 minutes in.

Bowdon took the lead only two minutes later after a quick counter attack and doubled their lead within 30 seconds of the second half starting.

Another quickfire goal left Wilmslow facing an almost impossible task.

The men in orange did summon some urgency and started to impose themselves on the game.

A flurry of second-half short corners offered repeated opportunities to spark a comeback but Wilmslow couldn’t convert.

Bowdon punished Wilmslow for their wastefulness with two late goals.

The seconds lost a bad tempered match 4-2 against Bramhall.

Wilmslow thirds fell 5-1 against league leaders Bowdon fourths.

The fourths lost by the same score to Sandbach seconds and the fifths, with a record age range of 13-72, went down to Bramhall thirds 6-3.

Wilmslow women went down 6-2 against national league club Bowdon’s second team.

The seconds held league leaders Alderley Edge thirds to a creditable 1-1 draw but the thirds lost to a strong Bowdon fourths.

The result of the day was the fifths' 7-1 home victory against Golborne fourths in the first game in front of the new stand at Styal.
