IVAN Bloor is an ever-present at Styal Golf Club both on and off the course after joining his beloved club in 2008.

He was a very proud Styal Captain in 2015 and has won plenty of club competitions over the years.

But his burning ambition has been to win the Doug Roberts Trophy played for by club Captains and Vice Captains since 2002.

Ivan, who plays off 13 handicap, said: “Although the field is obviously limited for this it is played for in a very competitive manner by old friends with a great desire to put their name on the trophy.

“When we came in at the end of play there was no indication of the scores at all and I was pleased with my 35 points.

“It was announced that Kenny Mayoh and Derek Lamb were leading with 33 points to wind me up and then finally to my great joy and relief I was declared as the winner and able to celebrate in style.

“I spend a lot of my spare time at the club as a volunteer to help wherever I am asked and my roles have included marshalling the junior competitions with pro Mark Johnson- with general help on the recent David Horsey Junior Open and I also helped on course with the recent Lady Captain’s Day and it is a pleasure to help in any way at our wonderful club.”
