CANUTE Badminton Club were rewarded for their performances on the court last season when they received prizes during the Crewe and District League's presentation dinner.

Three of them were team awards.

The Knutsford outfit, who play home games at Egerton Youth Club on Mereheath Lane, finished top of Mixed Division Two with an unblemished record after winning 10 matches.

More than a dozen individuals contributed.

"They fully earned it too after conceding only 21 games of the 180 they played," said Kara Robinson, Canute's secretary.

A joint ladies team, featuring members from Canute and neighbours Goostrey that played under the banner of Seven Sisters, secured promotion from the second division as champions after dropping only two games.

They will return next term to test themselves against rivals at a higher level.

A third title they collected at Crewe Golf Club was the John Ford Trophy given to victors of a handicap knockout played over the course of the campaign that rewards teams that exceed expectation.

There was individual success too when Jake Hartley received the Stan Smith Trophy in recognition of his improvement over the course of the campaign.

"The judges liked his enthusiasm for the sport," said Robinson.

"He doesn't just play for Canute as a junior every Monday but turns out for a senior team too and increasingly often beats seasoned adult players."
