KNUTSFORD children are enjoying a taste of duathlon.

The inaugural event in a new series attracted nearly 100 primary school kids, who took part in run-bike-run races and a fun run.

Jack Marwood, Elizabeth Grindley, Arthur Fordyce, Elsie Suthard, Oliver Shaw and Maya Suthard were winners in the various age ranges at Lymm High School in Warrington.

The Smart Financial Canute Kids Duathlon Series, which will continue at Darland High School near Wrexham on June 30 before heading to Knutsford for the finale the following week, is aimed at encouraging more children to get involved in multi-sport.

All participants receive a medal at the finish and the children are supported by a team of volunteers and marshals from Knutsford Triathlon Club.

“Talk about inspiring the next generation!” organiser Vicky McKinnon said.

“All of the kids finished with a smile and we have had some really positive feedback from parents, saying how much fun their children had.

"We were so impressed with everyone’s attitude.

"While there were some stunningly fast performances, watching the children who really had to dig deep to make it to the finish line was equally as inspiring."

Volunteer Louise Clague added: “It was a spectacular morning.

“When your job is to cheer these amazing kids on, job satisfaction is guaranteed with a capital G.”

Smart Financial contributed to the running costs of the races.

“It’s such a fantastic initiative to help promote an active lifestyle for boys and girls and we are so proud to be associated with such a brilliant local event,” said the company's chief executive Steve Martin.
