TOFT were denied an opportunity to build on an opening-day success when their first home game of a new Cheshire County League season was cancelled.

The Knutsford outfit had been due to host Oulton Park in a Premier Division fixture at Booth’s Park last Saturday but torrential rainfall prevented the game from starting at all.

It was a similar story at Little Budworth, where the clubs’ second teams were scheduled to meet.

Instead Jimmy Lomas and company turn their attention to visit from promoted Hyde on Saturday, from 12.30pm.

Coincidentally, their guests this weekend edged to a two-wicket win against Oulton Park in their curtain-raiser.

Meanwhile Toft’s seconds, also victors on their campaign bow, head in the opposite direction to take on their Hyde counterparts.

It was a washout as well in the Cheshire League last weekend for Ashley, Holmes Chapel, Knutsford and Over Peover.

Ashley, emphatic nine-wicket winners at Bredbury St Mark’s in their first game, travel to Heaton Mersey for a Division Two encounter this weekend.

Knutsford want to put behind them a reverse at Over Peover when they host Old Parkonians.

Meanwhile the men from Wellbank Lane are at Aston.

Chapel, who collected 16 points from a draw with Chester County Officers first time out, entertain Bunbury.

Those games start at 1pm.
