ALDERLEY Edge Cricket Club's first XI made a rotten start to the new campaign at the weekend.

They were dismissed for only 88 runs at home in the ECB Premier League against Nantwich, who went on to win with 90-3.

Richard Wilkinson (37) was Edge's top batsman, while Jimmy Warrington proved to be a thorn in the side of the hosts as he took four wickets for 19 runs.

Wilmslow's season also started with a loss in UK Fast Cheshire Cricket League Division Two.

They ended their 45 overs on 160-7, mainly thanks to Rishi Bhanderi (58no) and Lloyd Sykes (23no) holding the fort after their side had been reduced to 78-7 at one stage.

But Wilmslow had no answer to Langley opening batsman Robin Smith, whose 107 not out steered the hosts to 166-1.

Wilmslow Wayfarers have dropped out of the Cheshire League this year and are concentrating their efforts in Sunday cricket, with the first XI playing in Greater Manchester Amateur Cricket League Division One.

Wayfarers got their new chapter off to a positive start with a victory against Elite CC, Lancashire.

Elite were bowled out for 90, with Mohammad Javed (4-8), Shehzad Ahmed Butt (2-50), Ahmed Bashir (2-28) and Imran Butt (2-0) making their presence felt in attack.

Jahangir Mushtaq (34no) and Tahir Dar (12no) led Wayfarers to 92-5 in response.
