Knutsford 2-0 Alderley Edge 2nd
A SWIFT start set Knutsford on a course for victory, their first of a new year, when Alderley Edge visited.
The Black Knights took the lead inside five minutes when Cameron Geimer, left unattended in the D, deflected a cross from Keelan Sherwani past the goalkeeper.
Stuart Kenyon’s enterprise in midfield had started the move.
Gary Brown orchestrated the hosts’ best moves from a deep position and they continued to create chances.
Kenyon freed Jonny Price who in turn slipped a clever pass towards Geimer but he was unable to apply a finishing touch.
It did not deter Knutsford, and Sherwani doubled their lead at the end of a lung-bursting run from inside his own half after Graeme Wolfenden and Geimer had combined in the build-up.
The latter drove into the circle before squaring for his late-arriving teammate to score.
Knutsford posed less of a threat in the second-half, although they remained resolute in defence to keep a first clean-sheet since an opening-day success against the University of Liverpool.
Their wins tally for the campaign stands at 10 ahead of a testing trip to Brooklands MU thirds on Saturday, push-back 1.30pm.
Knutsford occupy third position in the table, two points adrift of second-placed Preston seconds.
