TRACY Jackson’s superb save from a penalty stroke helped Warrington Hockey Club’s women’s first team to a creditable draw against league leaders Brooklands-Poynton.

It was one of several saves that earned Jackson the player of the match award while some top-class defending from Carrie Wright and Dawn Harrington helped her out.

Warrington took the lead through Emma McCue and continued to create plenty of chances, but Brooklands eventually found an equaliser before some crucial clearances from Holly McCurrie and Kirsty Anderson ensured they held on for a point.

The men’s second team fought hard at Winnington Park and could consider themselves unfortunate to fall to a 1-0 defeat – a game featured an impressive goalline clearance from Chris Lyon while Douglas Samuels was fouled to deny him a goal as he broke from midfield to go through one-on-one with the keeper.

Ben Brown caused Winnington plenty of problems and Edward Pugh and Constantinos Kanaris continued to grow in their roles.

The women’s second team were beaten 4-0 by neighbours Lymm, with Molly Rudd earning their player of the match award.
