Knutsford 20-22 Glossop 2nd

KNUTSFORD failed to make the most of a chance to climb the table last weekend when they let slip a lead against lowly Glossop seconds.

Instead their guests ended a sequence of seven successive defeats in the North West Intermediate League’s Division Three South.

Blues will be desperate to put behind them a disappointing result when they host Old Bedians seconds on Saturday, kick-off 2.15pm.

With coaching duo Chris Edmonds and Will Cliff watching on, they began brightly and Adam Ellary converted a penalty to establish an early lead.

The home team used the width of the pitch to add to their points tally when Nick Webb dotted down in the corner before Dave Gol then went over between the posts.

However momentum shifted away from them when Glossop’s forwards started to gain ground and ill-discipline crept into Blues’ defending.

They relieved some of the pressure when Edmonds charged down a kick before collecting the loose ball to claim their third try of the afternoon.

Glossop, bottom of the table before the start, made the most of an opportunity presented to them when Knutsford had two players sent to the sin-bin and established a narrow two-point lead while their opponents were depleted.

The visitors then protected their advantage for the game’s remainder, leaving their hosts in a rueful mood afterwards.

“It’s a frustrating loss that could easily have been a victory [for us],” reflected Edmonds.
