Winnington Park Ladies 3-1 Oxton Ladies
WINNINGTON Park landed a blow in a fight for the Cheshire Women’s League title when they became the first team to beat Oxton this season.
Leona Wyllie’s goal put them in front before Rhona Logie made it 2-0 when she steered in a shot at the back-post from a short corner.
Oxton halved their arrears before the break, and pushed hard after it when they had more possession, but found the Northwich team’s defence difficult to breach.
Instead Park made safe maximum points when a swift counter-attack ended with Jaz Barlow adding to their advantage.
They climb to second spot in the Division One table, two points adrift of leaders Bowdon’s thirds, as a reward.
A trip to lowly Crewe Vagrants seconds follows this weekend.
Oxton Ladies 2nd 2-1 Winnington Park Ladies 2nd
THE visitors, forced to reshuffle due to absences in key positions, went unrewarded for their best performance of the campaign.
Despite Coral Taylor having to stand in as goalkeeper and captain Helen Cartin occupying a sweeping role in defence, they remained competitive.
Izzy Warrener’s attempt narrowly missed the target before Oxton edged in front, only for Liv Moynihan to level.
A fractious second-half ended with Winnington down to 10 players and their hosts made the most of a numerical advantage to score a decisive goal.
