A NUMBER of impressive victories have been recorded at Alderley Edge and Styal golf clubs, writes Nathan Okell.

Edge’s men were in Captain’s Trophy action, with Tony Cooper claiming a hard-fought win with 36 points - two more than Barry Arnold and on a card count back from this year’s Senior’s Captain David Read.

Edge’s ladies were also in stableford action, with a score of 36 giving Wendy Rule a three-point lead ahead of Sue Kendrick, 33, and Alison Roberts and Jean Walker, both on 28.

Styal’s Junior Summer Plate saw some great golf on show, with Charlie Ward leading the way on 67 points. Jack Muir, 69, and Sam Macleod, 71, came in close second and third places respectively.

In the Social Shield at Styal, Jonathan Brown built up a convincing score of 45, putting him out of the reach of Will Dodds on 38, Rob Sanderson on 37, and Andrew Murray, Harry Reid and Steve James, all tied on 35.

Sunday’s stableford at Styal was much closer however, with five players locked on 30 points. After a card play-off, David Foster emerged victorious, edging out Patricia Sharrocks, Rob Downes, Darren Woolcock and Steve James.

Finally, Styal ladies played out a close Grannies Cup stableford, with Joan Andrews leading the way with 36 points, two ahead of Helen Billington and Celia O’Donoghue who both scored 34.
