STEVE Jenyons will test himself at a higher level from next season after leaving Knutsford to sign for Winsford United.
The central defender, who as captain led Reds to a historic Cheshire League and Cheshire FA Amateur Cup double last term, was unveiled by Blues in an announcement last week.
He has played previously for the North West Counties League Premier Division outfit, but only when it fitted in with his commitments at Manchester Road.
“It’s a real coup for us,” said Winsford player-manager Lee Duckworth.
“Jenners is a fantastic defender who plays with a calm assurance, and we’ve been keen for him to join us full-time for a while.
“He has always been honest with us, and stressed that his loyalty was to Knutsford.
“Luckily for us he feels that now is the right time to make this move.”
Jenyons is likely to form a partnership in the middle of Winsford’s defence with Will Foster, a former Altrincham defender rated as one of the best at that level.
He departs Knutsford after making close to 300 appearances since making his first-team debut in 2010.
“I’ve spoken with him on the subject many times and he’s earned the right to play at a higher level,” said chairman Jimmy Evans.
“Everybody knows he’s more than capable of doing so, and as a club we’ve always promoted players moving upwards.
“He’s been a loyal servant to us, and will be sorely missed.”
