JORDAN Gunter has said Knutsford’s team will look different, and include younger players, with him and Jamie Mottershead in charge.

They were appointed as Reds’ new management team last week.

A first pre-season training session is scheduled for Wednesday, when a new era begins at Manchester Road following a trophy-laden four years under Scott Dignan.

However his replacements know what it takes to claim silverware too after leading Knutsford A to the Cheshire League’s Reserve Division title in each of the past two years.

“We can’t wait to get cracking,” Gunter told the Guardian.

“There’s always a buzz around when everybody gets together again, and even though our break has been shorter than usual we’ll be no different.

“It’s a great moment for us to be stepping up at this moment in the club’s history, and there’s something for us to really get stuck into.

“We’ll have a look at who is staying, and ideally we’d like to keep together a core of guys that we can build around.

“Jamie and I have worked with talented local lads beneath the first team, and we have faith that some of them are ready – and good enough – to be part of it.”

He said more of them would have been given an opportunity to impress in the latter stages of last season had Knutsford A not had so many fixtures to fit in during April and May.

They lost only once in the second-half of the campaign to finish clear of Garswood.

While Gunter and Mottershead are readying themselves for a new challenge, they are familiar already with the faces that report for duty next week.

The senior sides at the club are used to training together, particularly during the summer months.

“Some of the guys in the first team have been here for a long time,” added Gunter.

“I’ve played alongside them, and been around them; they’re good blokes who have been tremendous servants.

“This club sets high standards, we know that, and with those expectations comes some pressure.

“That isn’t something to worry about though.”

Knutsford are scheduled to play a first friendly against neighbours 1874 Northwich on Tuesday, July 17.

A first competitive fixture of the new season follows at the end of the month when they host Whaley Bridge in the Cheshire League’s Memorial Trophy curtain-raiser.
