THE youngest member at Knutsford Tennis Club and the oldest, 76 years her senior, are hoping to raise money to help pay for repairs to courts used by junior players.

Colin Hurrell, 80, and four-year-old Evie Airey will join their friends and family in a 24-hour challenge at the Mereheath Lane venue which starts on Friday, June 29 at 4.30pm.

It runs until the same time the following day.

“Anybody can take part – it’s open to all,” said club secretary Moya Meredith.

“Colin and Evie are proof that no matter how old, or young, you are then it’s possible to enjoy a fun game together.”

Groups can reserve one-hour time slots to take part, and will be encouraged to ask for sponsorship.

A busy support programme off-court, including live music, a gin tasting event, a barbecue, afternoon tea and other stalls, has been designed to distract those away from the action.

There will be a raffle too, with a test drive in an electric car from Tesla – based at Canute Place in the town centre – among the prizes.

Cardio tennis sessions and clinics with a former Davis Cup player, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, are also on offer.

Meredith added: “We hope there is something for the whole family to enjoy.

“It’s important that people book a slot they want, but they need to be quick. Midnight is surprisingly popular!”

The club’s target is to raise a total of £10,000.
