MIKE Roylance remains on course to retain the Knutsford and District Amateur League’s Jay Trophy after securing a place at next month’s finals night.
The defending champion, a member at Mobberley A, edged past Gary Long (Brook Street A) in the last eight after starting his bid to claim the silverware a third time by eliminating Dave Whalley (Alderley Union).
Alderley’s Andy Towers impressed on his way to the semi-finals of the league’s premier scratch singles tournament when he dispatched Arthur Hasford (Mere A) last week with the aid of a season-best run of 54.
The last-four line-up is completed by Mobberley’s Tony Crompton and Bruce Tulley – the most successful player in Jay Trophy history with 10 overall wins.
