Knutsford Ladies 2 Golborne Ladies 4
KNUTSFORD fought valiantly to pull back a two-goal deficit only to go and concede twice more.
Knutsford felt a little hard done by as they trailed at the break, having enjoyed the majority of the possession and more shots on goal.
With instructive and positive words ringing in their ears from coach Hadrian Caldwell and captain Elizabeth Ball, Knutsford’s players started the second half determined to readdress the balance.
Results came quickly.
An excellent pass from Leigh Carroll-Jones found Gill Lunt, who drove down the right wing taking on a number of Golborne players before pulling the ball back for Elin Rees to smash the ball into the goal.
Their efforts were soon rewarded again with a penalty corner after the ball struck a Golborne defender’s foot in the D.
Sarah Fielding met a ball into the D from Charlotte Chew with a diving shot on goal.
This produced an excellent save from the keeper but Carroll-Jones was there to pick up the rebound and slot the ball home from a tight angle for 2-2.
Lack of communication and marking left a gaping chasm in the Knutsford defence that allowed an easy pass through to the Golborne attacker who pushed the ball into the back of the net.
The visitors were then awarded a penalty corner after the ball hit a Knutsford player’s foot in the D and a well struck shot put the visitors out of reach.
Sarah Fielding and Sarah Evans stood out in the Knutsford ranks for their timely tackling and distribution of the ball.
