Knutsford Ladies 3-2 Runcorn Ladies

KNUTSFORD’S Ladies returned to winning ways last weekend after coming from behind to beat Runcorn.

However their guests at Westfield Drive were rewarded for applying early pressure when they scrambled an opening goal.

The home team settled, and restored parity through Gill Lunt at the end of a move involving midfield duo Charlotte Chew and newcomer Leigh Carroll-Jones.

Runcorn rallied though, and made the most of a numerical advantage in their opponents’ D to establish a 2-1 lead by the break.

Knutsford showed their fighting spirit after half-time, and were denied a second equaliser when Sarah Fielding’s strike was ruled out by the umpire.

They were undeterred though, and Fielding found the net shortly afterwards after Liz Ball had picked out Chew from a long corner.

The home team continued to attack, and their dominance yielded a decisive third goal after Fielding made an interception from a free-hit for Runcorn.

She then passed to Elin Rees, who kept calm before pushing the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Knutsford rise to fifth in the Cheshire Women’s League’s second tier as a result.

They head next to Crewe Vagrants seconds on Saturday, push-back 2.30pm.
