WILMSLOW CC dented Poynton’s promotion hopes with a three-wicket win in the UKFast Cheshire League.

Second-placed Poynton were restricted to 180-6 before the Squirrels fired back with 181-7.

Jags Narayanan with 3-47 and 71 runs was the chief contributor, but the Squirrels showed a strength in depth as the late middle order of Adnan Arshad (27no) and Lloyd Sykes (16no), ultimately won the game.

Poynton’s opener Longhorn hit 91no but the visitors never got on top of the bowling.

At 120-2 the total was well in reach but a mini collapse put Poynton back in the game.

A period of dogged defence and a six over the leisure centre from Adnan Arshad as well as a ramped four from Lloyd Sykes relieved the pressure en route to victory.

The seconds top their league after collecting 25 points from a game that was conceded by Warrington, while the thirds lost by 45 runs to Bredbury.

Young Jack Speak showed real promise taking 4-63 with his leg spin, and while a target of 147 was very achievable, the run getters failed to deliver.
