Lymm 4th 0 Holmes Chapel 61
HOLMES Chapel remain on course for back-to-back promotions after registering their biggest away win of the season at the weekend.
They will end the calendar year as leaders in North West Intermediate League Division Four South, six points clear of closest rivals Old Bedians seconds.
In-form Jed Wragg scored six of their tries against Lymm.
“We need to keep this run going,” reflected captain Dom Moss afterwards.
“Saturday’s contest was much more difficult than the result suggests, but we managed to keep them under pressure for the whole 80 minutes.
“There were a few notable performances – and obviously Jed was outstanding again – but I thought Conor Newby did well too on his debut.”
Andy Davies’ penalty opened the scoring on Saturday, then a forwards-led move ended with Joe Faulkes touching down the visitors’ first try.
Lymm did not lie down, tackling fiercely, although they could not stop Tom Lowe from sprinting to the line to add to Chapel’s advantage.
Wragg notched his first of the afternoon with a fine solo effort, increasing his personal tally shortly afterwards after the backs had worked the ball wide to Gavin Paton.
He broke through the defensive line before offloading to his teammate.
Wragg added another shortly after the interval, then Luke Day ran in an impressive score.
Callum Grant-Smith also got in on the act when he poached a try from the back of a ruck.
Wragg went on to complete a double hat-trick before the final whistle to make sure his side occupy top spot in the table at Christmas.
Chapel will return to action at home to Trafford MV thirds on Saturday, January 9.
