CHAMPION Bruce Tulley tumbled out of the Knutsford and District Amateur League’s Jay Trophy at the first-round stage on Wednesday.
The 10-time winner bowed out following a 2-0 defeat against Mobberley teammate Mark Newall, his opponent in last season’s showpiece for the scratch singles competition.
Morley A continued their pursuit of leaders Mobberley A in Division One with a whitewash of back-markers Brook Street B, though the distance to top spot remains eight points.
The champions were similarly ruthless in their head-to-head with Mere B, amassing a collective total of 465 points on the night.
Elsewhere, Mobberley B edged Tatton, while Jonathan Smith’s run of 50 was a highlight of third-placed Wilmslow Cons A’s success at Brook Street A’s expense.
Captain Bob Spilbury’s break of 36 was not enough to help Mobberley C to defeat Division Two leaders Morley B.
Their lead at the table’s summit is 11 points over second-placed Shaw Heath, who maintained their promotion challenge by beating Mere A.
Mobberley D made it back-to-back wins with a 5-2 success against Wilmslow Cons B, while Mere C only secured victory against Mobberley E from the last ball of the final frame at 11pm.
