A TEENAGER from Knutsford almost claimed a regional title at the end of his first open water race on Sunday.
Dan Hulme, of Mereheath Park, finished second in the under 13s boys’ race during the ASA North West Region Open Water Festival at Salford Quays.
His next challenge in open water is the national championships, at Rother Valley, in August.
The Knutsford Academy student, a Winsford Swim Team member, will also test himself against the best of the rest in the country at the ASA National Summer Championships.
He reached the qualifying standard for the under 13s boys’ 1,500m freestyle after winning a silver medal at the North West Regional Championships last month.
Dan knocked more than 15 seconds off his personal best, timing 18:20.65.
