Holmes Chapel 69 Linley thirds 0

HOLMES Chapel clinched a league and cup double when they overhauled Linley thirds on Saturday.

Already crowned Division Five South champions without losing a match, Chapel capped a perfect campaign at Eccles by adding their name to the Lighting and Building Services Plate for a second time.

Top try scorer Jed Wragg took his season's tally to 38 by crossing four times, with two coming as Chapel laid the platform by establishing a 30-0 interval lead.

After early pressure from Linley the first of two Andy Davies penalty goals settled nerves, with Wragg crossing in between to extend the lead.

Wragg supported a counter attack for his second try and although Linley raided for a period through their forwards McEnaney broke free and offloaded for skipper Dom Moss to cross for another score converted by Davies.

Within two minutes of the restart Wragg completed his hat-trick and Joe Maddock, who had been sin-binned earlier, scored an excellent solo effort.

After Wragg's fourth try the half century was passed when replacement prop Dave Steer bounced away two Linley forwards out of tackles to drop over the line.

The scoring was completed with further tries from full back Jack Cottam, Dom Moss and Jim Moss.

Club president Gary Cottam said: "To get to this stage as double winners when 18 months ago we were close to not existing is phenomenal.

"This is just the beginning of what looks set to be a really happy period in the club's history.”
