Goostrey WI by Sue Mansfield

Goostrey WI chairman, Marilyn Lloyd, greeted members back after the summer break and thanked Connie Lea for allowing members to attend the summer lunch at her home. A great time was had by everyone. Members were reminded of the trip to the NAFAS national competitions on Friday, November 13 and pick-up times were announced for the coach.

Competition results - Novices: 1. Elaine Denham. Intermediate: 1. Eve Anderton; 2. June Sulej. Advanced: 1. Hazel Harcourt; 2. Sylvia Spurrell. Advanced Plus: 1. Joan Wilkinson; 2. Anne Russell; 3. Dorothy Monks.

National Demonstrator, Lorena Dyer, enthralled the audience with her demonstration 'A Touch of Romance'. Lorena has been working with flowers for more than 20 years and is very hands on. She makes many of her containers and gave members lots of advice and hints. She is a very creative lady and during her demonstration she told the story of the romance which had a lovely happy ending. Lorena was very entertaining and told members that when she stops doing flowers she will go back to her other love, millinery. The vote of thanks was given by Anne Russell. Foyer flowers were by Pat Allen.

The AGM is on Thursday, October 8 at 11am in the lounge of the Village Hall. Please contact Sally Dyke for tickets for the lunch after the AGM, cost £14. The demonstration 'A Grand Day Out' by Alison Cooper will follow in the afternoon. Visitors are very welcome at 2pm for 2.30pm start in Goostrey Village Hall.
