ALDI could be set to move into Holmes Chapel creating 50 jobs - and the German supermarket giant wants your views on the proposal.

The premium discount food retailer, in partnership with developer Liberty Properties, has announced that it will shortly be submitting an application to Cheshire East Council for a new food store on Manor Lane in the village.

As a result, Aldi is holding a public exhibition for residents to come along and meet the project team, find out more about the proposal, and provide their feedback on the plans.

The event will take place on Thursday, July 30 between 3pm and 7pm at The Victoria Club in Victoria Avenue.

A spokesman for Aldi said he was encouraging the village to turn out in force.

“We are excited about the prospect of a new Aldi store for Holmes Chapel," he said.

"We hope to be able to increase retail choice for local residents, reducing the need for them to travel out of the area to do their shopping. We would like to encourage the local community to come along and find out more about our proposals and to meet the project team.”

If built, the spokesman said the new store would improve the retail offering in Holmes Chapel, which is currently seven miles from the nearest Aldi, which is in Knutsford.

"The proposal represents a multi-million-pound investment in the area, and would create up to 50 jobs, with more during construction, and supply chain opportunities," the spokesman added.

"The store has been carefully designed to ensure it sits comfortably within the site and enhances the appearance of the surrounding area. Attractive landscaping would complement the bespoke design, with large windows giving the single-storey store with a light, airy feel.

"Unlike other retailers, Aldi has a unique offering and does not act as a one-stop shop. Aldi stores do not have a butcher or fishmonger, nor do they sell, for example, tobacco.

"Instead Aldi encourages residents to complete their shopping at other local shops, adding to the vitality and viability of an area."
