RADIO 4 broadcast live from Knutsford as the town’s MP presented his Budget to the country.

You and Yours presenter Winifred Robinson was live from the garden of Knutsford Heritage Centre, and spoke to three business owners, including the Courtyard Coffee House’s Sharon Fay.

Two ‘live’ interviews with the panel were aired before and after George Osborne’s speech.

Within those packages Winifred asked the panel about the status of their businesses and what they were expecting from the budget.

Sharon told the Guardian she had seen a change in the town over the past year.

“I was a little bit nervous, but the team were very good, but I didn’t have time to think about it because we were busy next door,” she said.

“Things have definitely changed in the town in the past 12 months, and hopefully things will pick up again.

“There were a couple of items in the Budget which hopefully will mean that happens.

“I wanted to get across that not everyone in Knutsford is loaded, because that’s what people think.

“We have such a beautiful park on our doorstep, the town needs to use it.

“We need to keep the quirkiness and make sure we don’t become like the other high streets across the country.”

Val Bryant from the heritage centre said the centre was contacted by the show on Monday, March 12.

Said Val: “I said yes, but as long as they mentioned the heritage centre!”

“I’m not entirely sure how they got to know about us, but it was great to have them at the centre.

“It’s about time people stood up and know what the heritage centre is and what we are doing to promote the town’s history.”

The Radio 4 Budget programme can be listened to again on the BBC iPlayer.
