FILM crews headed to a Knutsford cafe again this week to film scenes for a six-part BBC series.

The Courtyard Cafe, tucked behind King Street, saw filming for the new drama take place on Monday, January 23.

Called ‘Anthony and Cleopatra’, it will be a six-part BBC series featuring Anne Reid and Sir Derek Jacobi and will go on air in April.

Matthew Fay, who runs the coffee shop with his wife Sharon, said: “They were looking for an original authentic coffee shop and they looked at places around Cheshire and it was between us and a place in Runcorn.

“They brought a director and the top brass out here and they decided to use us.”

Matthew added having a film crew on location was becoming a norm for the cafe.

A film crew descended in November 2011 to shoot a three-part romantic comedy for ITV called ‘Love Life’ featuring former Coronation Street star Rob James Collier and Andrea Lowe.

“A couple of the girls, Lisa and Sarah, have been extras so they have been waiting on tables while it is filming – they probably think Hollywood is calling,” he added.

“They’ve changed nothing to the building and what we have seen on the monitors it’s quite recognisable.. The last production you could still tell if you knew where it was but they changed quite a bit outside.”
