TATTON Park has unveiled its summer learning activities, with walks and workshops on offer to help visitors explore the natural habitat.

From lectures, talks and tours to practical sessions in watercolour painting or learning the skill of the English longbow, there are more than 60 specialist adult and family learning activities during the summer.

Many adult learning activities are centred upon the 1,000 acre parkland. Ever popular is the opportunity to get up close with Tatton’s deer herd on a deer walk, or feed and trailer ride.

These fascinating animals played a starring role in BBC Northwest Tonight’s Walk on the Wild Side programme throughout 2010.

Two parkland walks accompanied by rangers will be held for people to learn more about Tatton’s red and fallow deer herds.

On Wednesday, June 29, visitors can join the rangers on a summer stroll to appreciate the wildflowers in bloom and learn more about the insect life of the parkland. If you need more of an adrenalin rush, experts will be at the Old Hall, giving lessons in the English longbow.

The Tudor Old Hall should provide a wonderful setting for people to try their hand at this historic weapon. At almost six feet long, this powerful bow – traditionally made of yew, ash or elm – sets a challenge for aim and arm.

Learning and visitor services manager Lynn Podmore said: “If you are struggling to entertain your children in the summer holidays or looking for an opportunity to try a new activity in an inspiring location, then there could be an activity for you at Tatton Park.

“The learning department has put together a range of sessions to cater for young and old alike – from fun history taster sessions, creative classes, ranger walks, talks and much more. With approximately 1,000 individuals participating per year, activities are selling out fast. We hope to see you here soon.”
