THE younger brother of Tatton MP George Osborne has converted to Islam to marry his girlfriend.

Adam Osborne, 33, from Chorlton, Manchester, wed Rahal Noor, 31, in two ceremonies over the past six weeks.

One was a civil ceremony in Scotland, the other a traditional Muslim celebration in Withington, Manchester.

It has been reported that Dr Osborne has adopted the name ‘Mohammed’ and plans to attend mosque regularly in addition to praying five times a day.

He spent several months learning the teachings of the Koran at Withington mosque and it is understood his conversion was a condition of his wife’s family agreeing to the marriage.

Dr Osborne was working as a junior doctor at Wythenshawe hospital but resigned when health bosses began an investigation into him prescribing friends drugs in May 2008. A General Medical Council hearing into the case is still to take place.

He now works as a specialist in psychiatric care in London.

Dr Noor works in the plastic surgery department at the Royal Preston Hospital in Lancashire.

The couple met at St Andrew’s University in Scotland and studied medicine together at the University of Manchester.
