NORTHWICH's driving test centre appears to be ahead of the curve in its attempts to cut its driving test waiting times.
The average wait was around 16 weeks in August of this year in comparison to around 24 weeks in August of last year.
Nationwide other driving test centres are on the same path although not necessarily at the same pace as in Northwich.
The average wait across the country is currently around 20 weeks, the lowest it has been in a little less than two years.
Northwich is also best in the county with a shorter wait than in Chester, Crewe, Macclesfield, Warrington and Widnes.
It is possibly a result of a raft of changes to the making and the managing of bookings in the first few months of this year, including a change so that it is no longer lawful for anyone other than learners themselves to make or manage bookings.
As of March, learners have only been allowed two modifications to a driving test booking down from six modifications and, as of June, learners have only allowed been to move a driving test booking to the three nearest driving test centres.
A swap with a partner is only possible on a like-for-like basis, for example a weekday for a weekday or a weekend for a weekend, and only on an official phone line.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency's intention is to put a stop to the practice of block booking by third parties for sale and resale at increasingly inflated prices.
The Department for Transport is still some way off a target of a seven-week wait with the target date put back several times from last year, to this year, to next year.
