POLICE have issued an update after a tanker overturned on the A34 in Wilmslow.
Emergency services were called to reports of a collision in Birrell Way at around 12.15pm earlier this afternoon (Wednesday).
On arrival it was discovered the contents of the tanker were leaking onto the carriageway.
A Cheshire Police spokesman has confirmed the road has been closed in both directions between Bollin Valley Roundabout and Prestbury Road.
He added: "There are no reports of any serious injuries, and the contents of the tanker are not believed to be hazardous to the public.
"As a result of the collision the A34 is currently closed in both directions between Bollin Valley Roundabout and Prestbury Road.
"Recovery work is currently underway; however, the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.
"Local diversions are in place, but there are significant delays in the area and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Fire crews are at the scene of a road traffic collision involving a tanker which has overturned on its side on the A34.
"Police have closed the road in both directions between the A538 and Dean Row Road.
"Diversions are in place, but motorists are being advised to avoid the area while the incident is being dealt with.
"Firefighters are using absorbent environment mats to soak up fuel and oil spilt from the vehicle."
