Blackburn actor Alex Bain says he will miss his Coronation Street dressing room “dearly”, as he updates fans about his ‘exit’ from the ITV soap.

Alex, who plays Simon Barlow, is rumoured to be leaving the show, after 15 years on the cobbles.

While his exit has not officially been confirmed by ITV, Alex has hinted to fans that he does not have long left on the show.

In an Instagram post, he uploaded a picture of his Coronation Street dressing area. He said he is going to “miss the little space so dearly” adding that he is grateful to have “some shooting days left”.

He said: “Well my day is done! Nice and short day today. I’m going to miss this little space so dearly when I go. So glad I've got some shooting days left, so thankful.”

At the end of last year, an anonymous source reportedly told a national newspaper: “Alex is sad to be leaving Coronation Street because it really is like a family — but he realises that the time is right to move on.

“He’s very excited about the future and other opportunities.”

It has been speculated that Alex's 'exit' might be linked to a car crash, as actors were spotted filming these scenes before Christmas.

Now aged 22, Alex joined Coronation Street in 2008 aged just seven-years-old.

The show’s producers have given Alex many challenging and hard-hitting story lines over the years, including when the rogue teen became abusive towards his step-mum Leanne Battersby after she adopted him.

In 2011, Alex was awarded Best Young Performance at the British Soap Awards.

Alex has a daughter with ex-girlfriend Levi Selby and became a dad aged 17.

Last year, Alex reported split from his fiancée Mollie Lockwood.

Several photos were removed from his official Instagram page, including pictures he took with Mollie.

The pair, who first started dating in 2019, told a national magazine that Alex popped the question while watching the sunset from the balcony in their room during a romantic night in Chester.
