A DRIVER caught behind the wheel without insurance has been hit with a £1,000 court penalty.

Aziz Ur-Rehman, of Knowle Park, Handforth, Wilmslow, was charged with using a motor vehicle on a public road without third party insurance.

The 43-year-old was driving a Peugeot Partner van on Meller Road in Manchester on August 6, last year, without insurance, Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard on February 23.

After listening to the evidence, magistrates found the case proved.

Ur-Rehman was fined £660 and ordered to pay £264 victim surcharge and £90 costs.

His driving licence was also endorsed with eight points.

The defendant was given until April 5 to pay the £1,014 court penalty.
