A PETROL station car wash could be demolished to make way for electric vehicle charging points.
Motor Fuel Group has submitted plans to Cheshire East Council for alterations at the Mobberley Road Service Station in Knutsford.
The changes would see the existing car wash building and jet wash machine removed and replaced with three EV charging points and six EV charging bays.
Five jet wash bays would also be created and installed alongside a plant room, a substation enclosure, a meter cabinet, and associated forecourt works.
A covering letter, prepared by Carney Sweeney on behalf of the applicants, says these plans comes as part of Motor Fuel Group's roll-out of EV charging facilities at its sites.
It adds: "The UK has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 28 per cent by 2035 and moving to 'net zero' by 2050.
"As part of the 'net zero' strategy, the Government has placed a new emphasis on electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the UK.
"As part of this drive, it is essential there is a comprehensive and competitive EV charging network.
"At present, it is understood the uneven spread of EV charging facilities significantly hinders the take-up of electric vehicles, due to potential servicing complaints.
"En route charging for longer journeys is deemed crucial to support the switch to EV and reduce concerns about charge 'range anxiety'.
"For the aforementioned reasons, Motor Fuel Group is looking to roll out an extensive supply of EV charging facilities at existing and new service stations across the UK to diversify its existing offer, with the aspiration to make it as easy to charge your vehicle as re-fuelling with petrol or diesel.
"Mobberley Road Service Station would contribute positively to the existing EV charging network, to the benefit of those utilising the strategic highway network surrounding the application site.
"The proposals will enhance the existing offer at the service station, without compromising the efficient operation of the facility."
