KNUTSFORD schoolgirl Rosalie Tarne has been chosen as this year’s Mobberley Rose Queen.

The 12-year-old has been taking part in the festival since she was two.

Rosalie started in the traditional procession on the pre-school float and rose up through the ranks to become train bearer, bridesmaid, maid of honour, England character and lady in waiting.

Each contestant, aged between 10 and 12, spoke ‘eloquently’ to a panel of judges at a selection day at the Church Inn.

The girls summarised their past contributions to the village community and their commitment to the festival.

Rose Queen chairman Martin Sayell said: “Every one of them would be worthy of representing our village.”

Rosalie said she is ‘very excited’ about being crowned and is already talking about ways she can help with village life in her new role.

She will be crowned at the annual Mobberley Rose Queen Festival on Saturday, June 15.

Daisy Buckley and Martha McCloskey-Brennan will be ladies in waiting.

Current Rose Queen Beth Ralston and parish Cllr Hannah Moss attended the selection day.

Dancing rehearsals are now underway on Mondays from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at Victory Hall.

Character and float selection will be coming soon.

An honorary float to mark the centenary of the historic Everest climb by George Mallory and Andrew Irvine in 1924 will be a special feature in this year’s procession.
