NEW trees have been planted on public open space Knutsford thanks to a team of enthusiastic volunteers.

Friends of the Moor gave up their time on Sunday morning to plant six trees on the Barncroft, behind St Cross Church.

Two lime, two beech, a sweet chestnut and a copper beech were placed in the main row of trees in the centre of the field.

Andrew Malloy, of Friends of the Moor, said: “This is succession planting as many of these trees are mature and could be lost in the coming decades.

“These trees will fill the gap if that happens.

“We also planted a 30 metre mixed species hedgerow. It is only tiny now as it was planted with whips from the Woodland Trust, but in time it will create a great green boundary to the site and become much loved by the wildlife.”

The trees were funded by Knutsford Town Council.
