A ‘WONDERFUL gesture’ has moved a shopkeeper to tears.

Julia Chard couldn’t believe her eyes when she found an anonymous note and money pushed through the front door of Knutsford Olde Sweet Shoppe.

It comes just weeks after a thief had sneaked into her King Street shop over Christmas and escaped with a quantity chocolates and liqueurs.

Julia said: “I arrived at the sweetie shop on Saturday to receive this envelope through my letterbox.

“I am totally overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of our Knutsford community.

“I have no idea who has made such a wonderful gesture but thank them from the bottom of my heart. It made me cry.”

A note from the anonymous wellwisher read: ‘Sorry to hear that you had some of your stock stolen.

‘Please replace the stock with this money.

‘Thank you for all you do in the community.’

The gift followed a sneak theft which happened as families crammed the streets to watch the Santa parade.

Whilst the shop was busy, it is understood that a man filled a bag with items and ran off into the crowd.

Julia said: “It was a downer that someone had stolen from us on such a lovely day but we decided to stay positive.

“We just carried on. We had a fantastic Christmas.

“This gesture more than makes up for it.

“It has cheered me up, it’s such a lovely thing to do.

“I would like to forward on this act of kindness by donating the money to local Knutsford charities and hope the person who made the gesture approves of me doing so.

“We will be celebrating our 15th birthday trading in this beautiful town later in the year and it’s all down to the amazing support of our customers.

“Thank you.”
