A PUB is set for a name change as part of a major refurbishment.

Anthology in Wilmslow will soon go by a new name if plans submitted by Greene King are approved.

It will be renamed The Swan Inn as a reflection of the venue’s history, having previously been called The Swan Hotel.

A spokesperson for Greene King said “As part of a significant investment into improving the external beer terrace at the Anthology, we have also applied for new signage and are planning on changing the name of the pub to reflect its history.

“The pub was once called The Swan Hotel, and as it’s situated in Swan Street, changing its name to the Swan Inn is a nod to the pub’s heritage.”

Anthology is part of Greene King’s leased and tenanted division, Pub Partners.

Last month, the national chain submitted plans to Cheshire East Council for works to the existing beer garden.

The proposals include the erection of two 'off the shelf' pergolas, a monolith structure to carry outdoor TVs, as well as five metal posts which will be used to hold up festoon lighting.

Greene King then followed this up on January 10 when they submitted a second application, this time for new signage.

These plans revealed the new name of the pub, along with a new logo.

Comments about this application can be submitted until February 1, ahead of a decision target date of March 6.

The garden works application meanwhile has a comment deadline of January 31, with a decision due to be made by February 16.
