A DRIVER has been banned from the road after being caught while almost twice the legal alcohol limit.

Sam Mullins, of Lydiat Lane, Alderley Edge, admitted having 67 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath at Crewe Magistrates’ Court on December 28, last year.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The 19-year-old was caught over the limit whilst behind the wheel of a Mini on Shrigley Road in Bollington on December 3, last year.

Mullins was disqualified from driving for 18 months.

Drink-driving is a criminal offence that carries an obligatory disqualification of a minimum period of 12 months.

This ban can be reduced to 18 weeks if he pays to complete a drink-driving rehabilitation course before December 21, this year.

Mullins was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £120 costs and £48 victim surcharge.

Magistrates ordered the defendant to pay the £288 court bill by January 25.
