A LOST cat found roaming the streets has been found a new home in time for Christmas.

Villagers have been wandering round the Willow Lane area of Goostrey for several months.

The black cat was often found sneaking into homes and helping himself to food belonging to other pets.

All efforts to trace his owner failed so villagers launched an appeal to find him a forever home.

Sue Loft, of Willow Lane, and her friend, Cindy Morrissette, who has worked in cat rescue, distributed a flyer with a picture of Billy and distributed it to homes in the area.

Sue and concerned neighbours have been caring for Billy, who has a shelter outside.

It was feared that with winter temperatures plummeting, outside was no place for the stray, thought to be aged between three and five years old.

New owners have now offered to take Billy in, but wish to remain anonymous.

Chris Cross, a friend of Sue's who also lives in Willow Lane, said: "Everyone is very happy now that Billy has found a home and will have a lovely Christmas with a caring couple.

“He was taken to Goostrey Vets for a health check and was neutered, vaccinated and microchipped for his new owners.

"He is now in his new home enjoying chicken specially cooked for him and Sue has been invited to call to see him in the new year."
